Early departure for Sheikh Hussein—Ethiopia’s most important Islamic pilgrimage site. Visit the shrine dedicated to Sheikh Hussein, revered by Muslim Ethiopians and visited by thousands annually during pilgrim festivals. Witness the mosque’s unique structure and the surrounding ritual landscape.

Return to Bale for dinner and overnight.

Day 5

Drive from Bale to Sodere through valleys dotted with farming villages, mosques, and green plains. On arrival, soak in the natural hot springs, famed for their healing mineral waters and serene resort setting.

After breakfast, drive to Harar—a city with over 1,000 years of Islamic heritage. Known as the fourth holiest city in Islam, Harar welcomes you with its vibrant street life and historic walled city (Jugol).

Day 7

Explore Harar’s unique Islamic culture. Walk the maze-like alleys of Harar Jugol (UNESCO), home to over 80 mosques and 100 shrines. Visit the bustling Islamic market, local museums, and the legendary Al Nejashi Mosque.
In the evening, witness the famed Hyena Feeding ritual—an enduring tradition that brings wild hyenas and humans into rare harmony.

Day 8

Enjoy breakfast, then begin your scenic return to Addis Ababa. Travel through rolling highlands and fertile valleys. Expect an 8–9 hour drive with rest stops and cultural encounters along the way.

Day 9

Catch a morning flight from Addis Ababa to Mekele in the Tigray region. From there, drive to the town of Negash to visit Ethiopia’s oldest Islamic site—Al Nejashi Mosque. This historic mosque was built to honor the first Muslim refugees welcomed by the Christian Aksumite Empire in the 7th century CE.

Return to Mekele after your visit.

Day 10

Fly back from Mekele to Addis Ababa. Use the day for rest or optional walking excursions in the city.

Day 11

After a relaxed breakfast, enjoy a curated city tour of Addis Ababa. Visit the National Museum (home to “Lucy”), Mercato, Mount Entoto, and several mosques showcasing Islamic culture in the capital.
